No 261583, 20th Annual Meeting, October 21-26, 1984, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands from Caribbean Food Crops Society

Abstract: During 1982, 24 and 30% of the tannia (Xanthosoma spp), taro (Colocasia esculenta) and yams (Dioscorea spp) comercial producers were surveyed in the Atlantic and Northern Regions of Costa Rica, respectively. This information was used to describe the farm system, agroecosystems and management. Production of ataceas in the north is for national consumption while that of the Atlantic Region is for exportation. Yams are produced only in the Atlantic Region, especially for exportation. Weeds and diseases are the principal production problems for these crops.
