Abstract: Three Vertisols are identified in the Coastal Plain of the Parish of Clarendon, Jamaica. They are Brysons, Monymusk and Rhymesbury series. The morphological, physical and chemical characteristics of these soils are described. Their suitability is assessed and classified for 30 selected crops with respect to four major kinds of land use and management level. This assessment and classification were done following Jamaica Physical Land Evaluation System. In addition, soil and climate related limitations are also discussed.
