Patogenicidad y Fisiología de Xanthomonas campestris pv. dieffencachiae y el Efecto de Fertilizantes en el Desarrollo del Tizón Bacteriano del Anturio

Abstract:
En Puerto Rico la enfem1edad del tizón bacteriano en plantas de anturio (Anthurium andreanum Lind.) es común en las áreas húmedas del centro de la isla. Aunque la enfermedad no se ha estudiado mucho, se sabe que es causada por la bacteria Xanthomonas campestris pv. dieffcnbachiac (Xcd). En esta investigación la patogenicidad y fisiología de la bacteria se determinó en 20 aislamientos de síntomas bacterianos en Adjumas, Las Marias y Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. La patogenicidad se determinó en las variedades "Nitta", "07.aki Red" y "Splash", resultando un grupo patógeno y otro no patógeno. Se detemlinaron dos biotipos del patógeno mediante la exoenzima B amilasa en agar de almidón. Las caracteristicas de cultivo se determinaron en medios semiselectivos y no selectivos, encontrándose diferencias fisiológicas en agar de celobiosa-almidón La identidad de los aislamientos patogénicos y no patogénicos se reconfirmó mediante cromatografia de capa fina y espectrofotometria por la presencia del pigmento xantomonadina. Los resultados indican la existencia de ambos grupos patológicos de Xcd asociados a los síntomas de la enfermedad bacteriana en A. andreanum. La aplicación de los fertilizantes 19-6-12 y 20-20-20 disnúnuyó significativamente la severidad del tizón bacteriano en lavar. "Ozaki Red". ----- The bacteria! blight of anthurium (Anthurium andreanum Lind.) is common in the humid and central regions of Puerto Rico. Although the disease has not been studied in cletail, the bacterium Xanthomonas campestr~ pv. dieffenbachiae (Xcd) is known as the causal agent. In-this research, the pathogenicity and physiology of 20 bacterial isolates from Adjuntas, Las Marías and Mayaguez, Puerto Rico were studied. The pathogenicity ofthe isolates on cultivars ·Nitta", "Ozaki Red· and ·splash· was determinated. Patnogenic and non pathogenic groups were determined. Two biotypes of the pathogen were identified based on the enzyme activity of B amylase on starch agar media. Colony characteristics were determined in semi-selective and nonselective growth media. Physiological differences in cellobiose starch agar were found. fu identity of patbogenic and nonpathogenic isolates was confi.rmed by the presence ofxanthomonadin pigment by thin layer chromatography and spectrophotometry. The results indicate the existence of the both pathological groups of Xcd associated with bacteria! disease of Anthurium andreanum. The utilization of 19-6-12 and 20-20-20 fertilizers decreased the severity of bacteria! blight in cultivar ·ozaki Red".
