Abstract: The establishment of Geographical Indications (GI) can be considered like an instrument, that from initiative of public policies of rural development, can have application for the protection of territorial agri-food productions that present tipicity. In the case of being Local Agri-food Systems (LAFS) with a little level of productive organization, the GI Regulatory Board can be considered like a key local institution, from which programs directed to the structuring of the sector are undertaken, affecting the professionalization and building social capital between the agents who compose the LAFS. In this case the Regulatory Board will assume a determining role in the transmission of knowledge and innovations in the LAFS.
