Is There a Consensus among Agricultural Economist?

Abstract: The paper investigates the consensus among Hungarian agricultural economists on specific propositions on the basis of a 2004 survey using a consensus index. In comparison to previous studies of agricultural economists much more diverse found among agricultural economists. In contrast to earlier studies, we have no found evidence of a difference between positive and normative propositions. The results suggest that personal characteristics of agricultural economists, like age, occupation, educational background may have influence on the pattern of responses. We also found some support to the role of positive and normative influences on policy judgement.
