Abstract:
During 1970-75, 43 counties with increased earnings from mining and agriculture shed their persistent low-income status. There had been 298 such counties as of 1969. The majority of those 298 were located in the South. These counties had small populations, relied on agriculture for a large percentage of employment and earnings, and had a large Black population.
