Abstract:
The Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) program is a new, optional safety net for farmers provided by Congress in the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 (commonly called the farm bill). The ACRE program is available starting with the 2009 crop year as an alternative to receiving countercyclical payments. ACRE is based on changes in crop revenue; counter-cyclical payments (CCP) are based only on changes in crop prices. Direct payments (DPs) and loan deficiency payments (LDPs) will remain in both programs.
