Abstract: The physical background to farming in the United Kingdom is summarised, followed by an estimate of a balance sheet for the industry. The U.K. banking system is outlined, and the method of lending to farmers is described. Changes in the financial position of U.K. agriculture over the past 15 years are illustrated, and the author’s approach to credit assessment is explained.
