Abstract:
In reorientating the high input/high risk land and crop management systems some significant approaches are emerging that could make a very valuable contribution in managing the farming systems, particularly in the tropics. This provides an opportunity for greater contact and collaboration between agricultural scientists and farm managers from all parts of the world. The need is for a more rapid evolution of technologies which can not only maintain a high level of production but must also safeguard the basic values of an equitable society and a viable farming community.
