Abstract:
The World Bank is involved in: the development of communications systems and technology; increased attention to issues of extension service privatisation and cost recovery; experimentation with group and individual agent/farmer contacts; improving two-way extension-research linkages; and, developing practical ways in which agricultural extension services may effectively serve women as farmers. The World Bank’s involvement in each of these areas is reviewed and these new developments are put in perspective of current priorities in the overall development of professions; farmer- responsive agricultural extension systems in developing countries.
