Abstract:
In farm economics it is realized that farmers vary considerably in capacity and willingness to reach the economic optimal organization of production. This behavioral aspect influences farm structure by the production technology chosen from current options (static situation) and also by differences in the time taken to the adoption of innovations (dynamic situation). In sociology, the resulting levels of productivity under similar natural, social-economic and technical conditions are referred to as "styles of farming". The present paper focuses on the assessment of different styles of farming among arable farmers in a specific region in the Netherlands. Viability perspectives are outlined for these styles considering two scenarios of technical and institutional changes.
