Holstein Friesian Breeding in Holland

Jan Roest

No 346206, 9th Congress, Budapest, Hungary, 1993 from International Farm Management Association

Abstract: Holland is internationally oriented and favours an open dairy cattle breeding policy. We try to obtain the genes from all over the world, whichever suit us best, whether imported or coming from our own dairy population. All these genes are compared under the same uniform Dutch conditions. We are now experiencing a substantial international interest in semen of our best proven sires and offspring (pregnant heifers) of our best dairy cows. For the coming years we aim at giving dairy cattle breeders worldwide an opportunity to improve their herds with selected genes from Holland. The slogan 'Dutch Proven' stands for efficient protein production and functional conformation, and above all reliability of breeding values.
