Changing Patterns of Advice

Abstract:
In the future, there will be considerably less free advice available to the farmer. As advisory services become more directly chargeable, farmers will question more closely the value they are getting; the success of consultancy agencies will be entirely in the hands of the field staff. Changes in the agriculture industry will require consultants with the skill and ability to respond to the changing climate. Financial planning and budgeting are seen high on the farmers' needs. To help in this direction, professional advisors are likely to be equipped with portable computers which readily enable various options to be examined. Government legislation and changes in European Community policies will influence the role of the advisor. There is a market for consultancy, with keen competition from Farmers who will demand even higher professional standards.
