Farm Management on My Farm

Barbara Ross

No 346285, 10th Congress, The University of Reading, UK, July 10-15, 1995 from International Farm Management Association

Abstract: This paper introduces the author's farm, and elaborates several problems which have arisen in recent years. The problems have resulted from changes in the trading environment, and also from the use of farming methods inherited from a European tradition which are not suited to Australia. Solutions to these problems are being found by using a management process based on a strategic approach. A set of integrated goals is developed and is then subjected to review by a peer group. Management decisions are tested to ensure they meet benchmark standards and are compatible with the farm business goals. A systematic search for new ideas to meet these goals is revealing new directions for the farm business.
