Quality Management in the Danish Agricultural Advisory Service

Abstract: Presentation of a three-year project (1995-97) including the development, implementation and evaluation of an integrated quality and management system in accordance with the international standard ISO 9002. For the first time ever such a project has been carried out successfully in the advisory service sector. It has been demonstrated that it is possible to develop and apply a joint manual that outlines the framework for several agricultural advisory centres. The concepts of quality management as described in the standards require individual systems for individual enterprises. In this case it is fulfilled by an individual quality manual for each individual advisory team, containing all the specific management tools required. Quality management consists of 80% attitudes and 20% technique. The attitudes are the approach and the commitment of the management and the staff towards quality management whereas the technique is described in the quality manual. Quality management requires acceptance on the part of the individual employee. It cannot be implemented overnight - it takes 1-2 years.
