Abstract:
Although a significant proportion of farm management graduates in New Zealand obtain employment in private consultancy firms, little is formally known about the process of farm management consultancy. Recent studies found that the consultancy process comprises two important components; rapport building and problem solving. This paper reports a case study of the rapport building process used by an experienced farm management consultant. A conceptual framework of the process developed from the literature is presented and compared with the process used by this consultant. The paper highlights the important aspects of rapport building a consultant needs to consider when developing rapport with a client.
