Necessary Changes in Teaching Management for Students of Agricultural Engineering

Abstract: For a couple of decades Hungarian economy has been characterized with a central economic decision system having been far from (world) market rules. Artificially operated organizations (in production, distribution and supply) were driven by the government through certain controlling regulations. Financial results originated from 'bargaining' and the whole economic surrounding was not suitable for any innovations. Organizations needed 'heads' but managers. Manager and entrepreneur as per categories were counted as foreign parts in the 'existing' socialism. After changing the socio-economic system in 1989 new phenomena emerged in the Hungarian economy just as privatization of state properties, appearance of foreign capital, heavy competition between organizations, closer co-operation within the logistic chain, strengthening of consumer-focused behaviour patterns, fast diffusion of information and communication techniques, accessable information systems, internationalized company leading, eurostandards etc. All these processes assume employing managers possessing the newest management skills and practices. Even the training of agricultural experts has to meet this challange. Our study is to discuss the necessary steps in training organization, subject matter structuring, knowledge clustering and in knowledge transfer leading to establishing the backgrounds of an effective agri-business manager training.
