Abstract:
There are large variations in the production costs per unit in feed production at farm level. The advisory service wants to focus on cheap feed production as a key for farmers who want to be able to compete in the future. This is the background for a project at the Norwegian Agricultural Economics Research Institute to develop a decision support system for managing feed production. The main objective for the work has been to develop better tools for analysis and planning ofproduction and use offeed. The developed system has four modules: one for cultivation and growing, one for calculation of feed consumption, one for use of machinery, storing and feeding, and one for economical co-ordination. The co-ordinating module can use data directly from the farm, from farm management pocketbooks, or from the other modules (sub-modules). The co-ordinating module provides complete analysis and planning of the whole farm.
