Sustainable Agriculture in Transition Economies: Case of Hungary

Abstract:
In this paper, the authors examine the current conditions for the advancement of sustainable agriculture in the economies in transition. A case study is carried out for Hungary to derive general conclusions. First, current conditions of agricultural and rural development in Hungary ere assessed. Then, the findings from a sample study are presented to understand the current conditions surrounding the farms that practice sustainable agriculture approaches. The paper ends with own evaluation of the policy tools to be introduced for the promotion of sustainable agriculture in the economies in transition.
