Analysis of Kansas Farm Household Expenditures

Gordon L. Carriker, Allen Featherstone and Ted Schroeder

No 133752, Staff Papers from Kansas State University, Department of Agricultural Economics

Abstract: The economic stability and viability of farmers are issues of great concern to rural communities. Employing data from the Kansas Farm Management Association data bank, farm household income and price elasticities are estimated in this study. Results indicate that as consumption expenditures decrease, those items for which farm households are most likely to reduce expenditures include gifts, charitable contributions, recreation, education, and furniture.
