Abstract: The general purpose of this study is to analyze selected factors affecting Cape Verde's ability to increase production and sales of bananas. In this process the export market of Portugal will be examined as it has traditionally been the only export market for Cape Verdian bananas. In specific terms the objectives of this study are: 1) To analyze factors affecting the supply of bananas in Cape Verde; 2) To review trends in demand for bananas in Cape Verde and in Portugal as an attempt to discover potential reasons for the drop in banana exports from Cape Verde; and 3) To suggest additional research and policy considerations which could improve Cape Verde's ability to produce and sell bananas.
