Abstract: In this paper, we investigate how sustainable consumption alters food loss and waste (FLW) generation and its associated socio-environmental impacts. This analysis provides a first step towards clarifying scope and potential trade-offs between reducing FLW versus reusing FLW in a circular bioeconomy when transitioning to a more healthy and sustainable food system. A key contribution of this paper is that a Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) compatible FLW database is constructed by combining the GTAP Nutritional Database with consolidated data on FLW estimates and estimates of macro and micronutrient content from the GENuS database.
