FACTORS INFLUENCING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES IN THE DAIRY INDUSTRY

Noro C. Rahelizatovo and Jeffrey Gillespie

No 35241, 2003 Annual Meeting, February 1-5, 2003, Mobile, Alabama from Southern Agricultural Economics Association

Abstract: Best management practices (BMPs) consist of conservation methods promoted to reduce water pollution from agricultural activities. This study investigates the likely determinants of Louisiana dairy producers' decisions to voluntarily implement BMPs. Farm size, milk productivity, frequency of meetings with LCES, and risk aversion significantly influenced the increased adoption of BMPs.
