A taxa de crescimento das exportações madeireiras e a taxa de crescimento do desmatamento das florestas brasileiras apresentam uma correlação fraca e positiva, indicando que o crescimento das exportações para esses mercados não têm fortes impactos sobre o desmatamento florestal no Brasil.---------------------------------------------Brazil is an important exporter of wood in the world, with the main destination markets of the United States and the European Union. Thus, this study aims to estimate the equations of supply and demand for timber exports from Brazil to the United States and the European Union; Identify the sources of wood trade of Brazil in its main markets of destination; and, check the effect of international trade wood timber on the rate of deforestation of the forests of Brazil. According to the results it was found that the demand and supply of wood Brazilian European Union are inelastic in relation to the price. Moreover, in the North American market demand is elastic, while the supply is inelastic. Additionally, an increase in the degree of openness of these markets will increase exports of Brazilian wood. Based on the values of the indices Grubel-Lloyd can be stated that the comparative advantages, from the differences in appropriations of factors, represent the main source of trade in wood between the markets considered. The growth rate of exports wood timber and the rate of increase in the deforestation of the Brazilian forests have a low correlation and positive, Indicating that the growth in exports to these markets do not have strong impacts on the forest deforestation in Brazil.
