Fry No 308934, Agricultural Information Bulletins from United States Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service Abstract: Excerpts from the report: Beginning in 1946, fiber and spinning tests had been published annually on modal qualities of American cottons. This seemed a good beginning, and it was therefore decided to assemble and analyze the results of these and other large studies regularly made in the Cotton Division [Agricultural Marketing Service] since 1946. It is this material, assembled primarily to provide a basis for a better understanding of cotton quality relationships in our own work, that is presented in this report and supplement. The analyses in this report are based on three sets of studies made in the Cotton Division: on test results for composited samples of modal qualities of American upland cottons included in crops included in the annual quality surveys, crops of 1956-58; and on samples from individual bales purchased for use in grade or staple standards since 1956.
