Abstract:
Excerpt from the report Summary: Burley tobacco can be handled on portable curing frames with a front-mounted tractor-loader with about half the man-hours per acre required by conventional tobacco production practice. Approximately half the man-hours required by this partly mechanized handling system involves manual labor. The work, performed by a smaller crew, is both easier and safer than that performed with conventional handling methods. Unit production costs of the experimental system are generally independent of acreage, with the exception of amortization of tractor-loader and wagons.
