A Summary Report on the Financial Condition of Family-Size Commercial Farms
Economic Research Service
No 309339, Agricultural Information Bulletins from United States Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service
Abstract:
Excerpt from the report Preface: Difficult conditions in the farm sector for the past 4 years have placed a number of farmers under financial stress. While some farms of all sizes have been experiencing financial stress, these problems have been most pronounced for family-size commercial farms. This report estimates how many family-size farms are likely to have financial problems, how much debt they owe, and how farmers' financial problems are affecting farm lenders. The estimates were derived from surveys of farm income, expenditures, and finances made in early 1984, with estimates updated to January 1985.
