Recent Financial Gains Helping Farmers Withstand Drought

Gregory Hanson, Richard Kodl and Gary Lucier

No 309470, Agricultural Information Bulletins from United States Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service

Abstract: This report reviews farm sector improvements in 1987. It examines trends in Government payments and the upturn in farm exports, it compares the economic well-being of livestock farms with those of cash grain farms, it compares farm financial conditions in the regions, and it examines key farm financial measures. It analyzes the decline in commodity stocks, a reversal in overall trend. The report also identifies those farms that could face loan default problems because of the drought.
