Abstract:
Average production costs and returns per planted acre of rice are presented for 1988 with and without the direct effects of Government programs. When the direct effects of programs Are included in the estimates, gross returns, production costs, and net returns are all higher. This analysis is the first time the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has prepared such estimates for any commodity because the necessary data were not available in the past. Such data are available only for rice.
