Spatial Dimensions of Land Use and Environmental Change Using the Conservation Needs Inventory: Methodology and Applications

Ralph E. Heimlich and Clayton W. Ogg

No 329565, Economics Statistics and Cooperative Services (ESCS) Reports from United States Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service

Abstract: Two computer-based methodologies which make use of the spatial information contained in the Conservation Needs Inventory (CNI) are presented and illustrated with applications to the Chowan-Pasquotank River Basin. The amount and location of land clearing and the amount and location of gross soil erosion from cropland are determined and displayed on computer-generated maps. Potential applications to river basin planning and other studies are discussed.
