The 1964-65 Cropland Conversion Program: A Description and Appraisal

Abstract: Excerpt from the report summary: The 1964-65 Cropland Conversion Program (CCP), an experimental program offered in 101 counties and used in 100 counties, provided payments to farmers for converting land from row crops and small grains to conserving uses under 5-year agreements. Nearly all land in the program was converted to pasture. A study of 446 farms in the program in 12 counties showed no significant differences between CCP farms and other commercial farms in their respective areas in factors such as acreage in farm, percentage of land used for crops, or the proportion of cropland accounted for by base or allotment crops.
