Abstract:
Excerpts from the report: Every important farming area in the United States has a significant stake in the agricultural export market. In fiscal year 1965/66 such exports were valued at a record $6.7 billion and in July-April 1966/67 were at an annual rate of $6.9 billion. The impact of this vast export movement is felt on both the farms and cities of the United States. Hundreds of thousands of wage and salary earners make their living in U.S. industries engaged in marketing, transporting, financing, and storing farm products. The continuation of a high level of U.S. agricultural exports is essential to the agricultural economy of each State and of the Nation -- and of most Congressional Districts. Of the 435 Congressional Districts in the United States, 278 reported substantial production of agricultural commodities as summarized by the 1964 Census of Agriculture.
