No 324023, Miscellaneous Publications from United States Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service
Abstract:
Excerpt from the report: The population living on farms in rural areas of the United States; averaged 9,712,000 in the 12 months centered on April 1970. The indicated decline of 595,000 since 1969 represents a further continuation of the longtime downward trend in the number of farm residents. Since 1960, when there were 15,635,000 persons in the farm population, the number has declined about 6 million -- at an average rate of 4.8 percent annually.
