Rural Zoning Enabling Acts of the Northern Great Plains States

Abstract: Excerpt from the report: Rural zoning was developed originally as a means for achieving certain land-use adjustments in the Lake States Cut-Over Region. During the past decade there has been considerable discussion of the adaptability of rural zoning to Great plains conditions. More recently, this interest has centered around the application of rural zoning to defense project areas during the war period. Although rural zoning is relatively new in the Great Plains Region, 4 of these states (Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota) already have enabling legislation on this subject. The other 3 states (Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming) do not have rural zoning enabling acts, although Montana and Wyoming have provided for airport zoning.
