Compendium -- Approaches to Improve the Nutritional Status of the Pre-School Child

Weil, Robert P.,

No 335259, Miscellaneous Publications from United States Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service

Abstract: Excerpts from the [Foreword]: It has been undertaken as a preliminary step in identifying programs, or program elements, that may be of use in program planning and design. The descriptions seek to include information on: (1) how the program works, (2) who it reaches, (3) what is its nutritional effectiveness, (4) does it also contribute to other development goals, health, education, etc., (5) what are the estimated costs. Individual examples of different approaches are used, recognizing at the same time that a given approach may have considerable variation. The material presented has not been reviewed by those responsible for the programs, and where necessary, assumptions, or estimates, concerning mode of operation, impact, etc., are made. The bases from which the cost figures are derived are not necessarily comparable in all cases. Since a change in a basis used can significantly affect final costs, the figures presented here should be treated with this in mind.
