Abstract:
Excerpts from p. 189, The Tobacco Industry (Agricultural Economics Bibliography No. 75): Discusses tobacco in the British Empire as a whole; consumption, leaf requirements, source of leaf supply, effect of general Government policy, and effect of preferential policy in the United Kingdom; production in Nyasaland, British India, Canada, and other Empire countries; consumption, source of supply, government policy in the Irish Free State; and the outlook. Accompanied by 15 statistical tables. A map shows tobacco production in the British Empire and imports into the United Kingdom by principal countries of origin. Charts show tobacco products manufactured in Great Britain in census years 1907 to 1930, and estimate for 1936; imports and consumption of unmanufactured tobacco in the United Kingdom, stocks, and ratio of stocks to consumption, 1910-36; seasonal variation in imports into the United Kingdom by principal countries, average 1932–36; stocks, quantities consumed in factories, and imports from foreign and British Empire countries, monthly average 1932–36, in the United Kingdom; consumption of Empire-grown tobacco (unstripped leaf equivalent) in the United Kingdom, by countries, 1919–37.
