Abstract: This is the second part of ERS's report on the effects of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) on U.S. agriculture. The first part, WRS-99-1, was published in August 1999 and contains the following sections: Developments in Trade, Policies, and Dispute Resolution; Employment in U.S. Agriculture and Related Industries; Investment in Agriculture and Food Processing; and Beyond the Farm Gate. This second part of the report provides a commodity-level assessment of NAFTA's impact on U.S. agricultural trade with Canada and Mexico. Thirty-five commodities and commodity groupings, which constitute over half of this trade, are examined in close detail.
