DETERMINANTS OF PERFORMANCE OF IRRIGATION PROJECTS IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

Paul Faeth

No 277645, Staff Reports from United States Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service

Abstract: Irrigation development in developing countries is very expensive and most irrigation development projects experience large cost-overruns. In addition, many projects are not as productive as planned. This report provides some insight into the key factors which cause cost escalation and performance degradation, and describe policies which may help to remedy these problems.
