Michael E. Salassi and David E. Gatton

No 277995, Staff Reports from United States Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service

Abstract: Financial conditions and operating characteristics of farms in the United States differ widely among regions, farm sizes, and farm types. This report presents regional characteristics of farms by type of farm and sales class. Data were obtained from the 1984 Farm Costs and Returns Survey. Information presented here includes financial characteristics of farms, such as measures of farm income and expenses, value of assets and debt, and operating characteristics of farms which include crop acreage and tenure status.
