Abstract: This report contains estimates of world population for 1950 to the mid-1980's, depending on the latest country census, and projections to the year 2050. The data show the world population expanding from an estimated 5.1 billion in 1988 to 6.2 billion in the year 2000 and 10.8 billion in 2050. The information is provided for 204 countries, grouped into 14 geographic regions. It is a part of the Bureau of the Census population data bank used in the Economic Research Service (ERS). The data are electronically accessible to ERS and other analysts.
