FARMLAND PRICES: AN EXAMPLE OF ECONOMIC FORECASTS, USES, AND LIMITATIONS

Karl Gertel

No 278051, Staff Reports from United States Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service

Abstract: Presenting general trends is a more accurate way to convey forecast information to users than the traditional model-generated year-to-year (point) predictions. This report describes the benefits of forecasting procedures that combine results of formal econometric models with judgmentbased predictions. Farmland prices are used as an example.
