Abstract: Structural change in the economy is causing economic stress in rural America, in sharp contrast with the 1970's, when growth and economic vitality were the dominant rural themes. The papers in this volume provide up-to-date information on changes in the structure and performance of the rural economy and on alternative policies to facilitate the adjustment of displaced people and their communities.
