Abstract: This study was commissioned by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Defra (Defra) for the purpose of providing information to assist in compilation of a Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) for the possible introduction of an EU-wide Council Directive relating to the welfare of broiler chickens, in particular by estimating costs to the broiler industry in England.
