SHADOW PRICING AND CHOICE OF TECHNIQUE: AN APPLICATION TO INDONESIAN RICE MILLING

Peter Warr

No 13452, Staff Papers from University of Minnesota, Department of Applied Economics

Abstract: This paper attempts to explore the implications of shadow pricing for the evaluation of four investment alternatives recently faced by the government of Indonesia. The shadow pricing procedure adopted involves a welfare accounting exercise which attempts to estimate the social benefits and costs of public production or use of commodities in the presence of market distortions.
