ECONOMIC THEORY: ORTHODOXY AND JOHN R. COMMONS

Dale C. Dahl

No 14291, Staff Papers from University of Minnesota, Department of Applied Economics

Abstract: This paper attempts to present fundamental aspects of the economic theory of John R. Commons by comparing it with that theory usually presented in economics textbooks. The discussion starts with definitions and a general perspective of the Commons' theory and proceeds to examine and compare assumptions concerning economic behavior, theoretical conclusions about reality and usefulness and applicability to economic research problems.
