Abstract: Ghana’s Rural Enterprises Programme (REP III), implemented from 2012 as part of a long-term national initiative supported by the Government of Ghana and IFAD, aimed to reduce rural poverty by strengthening micro and small enterprises (MSEs). The programme provided business training, advisory services, technology support and improved access to finance. The impact assessment found that REP III significantly enhanced business management skills and financial inclusion, increasing both loan applications and approvals among participants. The programme also raised household income and asset accumulation, largely by encouraging self-employment and shifting income sources away from less profitable agricultural activities. In addition, REP III improved food security and dietary diversity. The study also found positive effects on women’s empowerment and reduced gender inequality within participating households.
