Abstract:
The Smallholder Market-Led Project (SMLP), implemented between 2015 and 2024 in Eswatini, aimed to improve income and nutrition outcomes by combining community-driven planning, sustainable soil and water conservation infrastructure and market-led agricultural production. SMLP focused on five key value chains to boost production, market access and food security. The project supported 37 chiefdoms in developing tailored development plans and mobilizing resources, while protecting erosion-prone land and enhancing irrigation across thousands of hectares. It targeted both market-ready producers and food-deficit households, providing training, input support and market linkages to improve agricultural productivity, food security and income generation.
