Malawian Agriculture: The Commercialization Challenge
Paul N. Wilson
No 281278, Working Papers from University of Arizona, Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics
Abstract:
Malawi, one of the most agriculturally-dependent countries in the world, enjoys land, water, and people resources that are underutilized at this moment in history. The lack of supportive infrastructure, markets, technology, policy, and cooperation constrain agricultural development and thereby, human flourishing. Reducing transaction costs, exploiting domestic and regional trade opportunities, encouraging group participation, and stabilizing the macroeconomic environment can create a more beneficial economy for the majority of the people.
