Abstract: Excerpts from the report: The Iowa-Cedar Rivers Basin study area encompasses 12,971 square miles or 8,301,440 acres. It includes the Iowa-Cedar Rivers drainage area of 12,637 square miles and the Flint River Subbasin containing 334 square miles. Ninety-two percent, or 7,646,740 acres, is in Iowa and includes about 23 percent of that State. The remaining 8 percent, or 654,700 acres, is in Minnesota. The Basin is 250 miles long, and 100 miles wide at its widest point. The primary objective of the U. S. Department of Agriculture’s participation in the Iowa-Cedar Rivers Basin Study was to develop a plan that will facilitate the coordinated and orderly conservation, development, utilization and management of water, land and related resources. The study identifies the opportunities to promote economic growth and development. This growth and development can provide long-term benefits to the residents of the Basin, State, Region, and Nation. The study also seeks alternatives to develop and improve the environmental quality of the Basin’s land and water resources.
