Abstract:
This "Acreage Allotment and Marketing Quota Summary" has been prepared primarily for the use of employees of the Department of Agriculture to help answer some of the principal questions which arise about the operations of the Department's acreage allotment and marketing quota programs for the basic commodities--corn, wheat, cotton, rice, peanuts, and tobacco. These acreage allotment and marketing quota programs, which are conducted in conjunction with CCC price support programs, provide the means for helping to bring supplies in better balance with requirements. The summary is not intended to be either a complete technical description of all phases of the acreage allotment and marketing quota programs or a substitute for the commodity bulletins issued by the Commodity Stabilization Service. It merely summarizes some of the more important provisions relating to marketing quotas and acreage allotments contained in the basic legislation--the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938, as amended--and contains certain statistics with respect to operations.
